What is BUG Rating and why should you care about it?

Modern lighting should be more than just functional – it should also respect the environment. The BUG Rating system (Backlight, Uplight, Glare) evaluates luminaires based on how they distribute light and what impact they have on both surroundings and user comfort.

• B – Backlight → measures the amount of light emitted behind the fixture, which can unintentionally spill onto buildings or private properties.

  
  



• U – Uplight → indicates how much light is directed upwards, contributing to light pollution and diminishing the visibility of stars in the night sky.

  
  



• G – Glare → refers to the level of visual discomfort caused by excessive brightness, which can affect safety for drivers, cyclists, or pedestrians.
